Rooted Rising
Painting the Change, hosted by the Rooted Rising Development Media Initiative, was more than an event—it was an experience.
It brought together an inspiring community of artists, young people, academics, and community members, all united by the power of visual storytelling as a tool for intergenerational learning, youth mobilization, and community development.
We were proud to collaborate with the University of Port Harcourt Art Museum and the Young Environmentalists Network to host this dynamic workshop. The gathering created a unique space where creativity met conversation—allowing participants to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections around climate and environmental action.
The session featured talented professional artists including Ezikiel Oni, Jackson Fubara, Best Man Happiness, Inye Horsfal, Glory Akwevagbe, Ayibanegimote, Olulu, Jahswill Amadi, and Divine Thomas. Through colours, brushes, and even recyclable materials, they translated environmental realities into powerful visual expressions—capturing the changes we are witnessing in our environment today.
But the idea of “Change” in this campaign goes beyond documenting environmental degradation. It speaks to the transformation we are working toward—the future we are determined to create for ourselves and for generations to come.
Through this campaign, we hope to turn statistics into lived realities, create a strong reference point for intergenerational learning, mobilize young people and communities, and ultimately inspire hope and healing in communities most impacted by environmental crises.
